What is RSA CLAIT?
CLAIT stands for Computer Literacy and Information Technology. It is an RSA Stage 1 qualification now certified by OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations Board) which accredits basic competence in a variety of computer applications. It is suitable for candidates in schools and colleges, and for those in or entering employment.
Is RSA CLAIT a recognised qualification?
Since it was established in 1984, CLAIT has become the most popular Basic IT qualification in the UK. Over a million people now hold CLAIT certificates worldwide.
How many computer applications are offered?
Fifteen computer applications are available. These include Wordprocessing, Database, Spreadsheet, Computer Art, Desktop Publishing, Graphical Representation of data, Computer Aided Design, Music Technology and On-Line Communications.
What skills does a candidate need to achieve an application?
The CLAIT syllabus divides each application into Elements of Certification, which are further subdivided into Assessment Objectives. Below is an example of the Elements and Assessment Objectives for the Spreadsheet application

How do candidates demonstrate that they have these skills?
By taking a single assignment per application. The assignments are either OCR-set, OCR-approved template assignments or OCR-approved Centre-set assignments. They are internally assessed and externally moderated by OCR, and can be taken at any time.
